My patients come from complex, chaotic families, where relationships and communication are broken and there is sometimes chronic illness, addictions, or other problems such as violence. These families are rigid, but my patients want to remain in and be accepted by them. When such a family encounters hurdles in the outside environment, external stresses are added to those within. At present, polarization happening simultaneously inside and outside a family is an increasing and dangerous combination. I help my patients see how their family works, opening possibilities for change while keeping the family together.
