The focus of therapy is helping people have better relationships. The work is collaborative in that we work on problems together aimed at helping self-understanding regarding the contribution the person is making to an emotional lock. Focus is also on helping identify feelings as well as learning to express feelings in a productive way so that feelings are more likely to be heard and well received. In times of stress, the issues in relationships are the same but intensified. Commonly employed protective defenses to stress are defensiveness, withdrawal, anger and isolation which can bring out further negativity in others.
