Many people remark they wish they had a handbook with specific directions on how to be a good parent. If you happen to be one of the selected who have an atypical child a generic handbook wouldn’t help anyway. Second guessing every decision you make can be overwhelming and emotional at times where you just don’t know what to do. You probably feel like you can’t possibly go on like this forever. These thoughts and feelings are quite natural and don’t mean you are not a good parent. Maybe you just need a new playbook for your specific situation. I’ve lived and worked with individuals with special needs and their families both personally and professionally throughout my entire life. It’s hard, but the most important thing I’ve learned is that you don’t have to do it alone. Together we can navigate your loved one's specific needs without you losing yourself in the process.
