With couples, I teach effective and respectful communications. If couples cannot talk to each other with kindness and respect, little can be accomplished. I do take sides, and I name names. Not all issues are 50-50. In fact, most are not. It is important for both members of the couple to understand and realize why they are in crisis, and the role that each party plays. Only then, can each person do the work they need to do alone (in front of their partner).
