True connection only happens when you let people into the places you normally keep hidden. If you’re a member of the LGBTQ+ community, you’ve probably been hiding a lot of who you are – maybe for a very long time. After all, if they can’t see you, they can’t hurt you. It’s a coping mechanism, but as you know, it’s not a viable long-term strategy for living a full, authentic life. You can’t experience intimacy and healthy relationships when you’re not fully showing up as yourself, which leaves you lonely, isolated, and disconnected. It’s no wonder LGBTQ+ individuals face higher rates of anxiety, depression, and trauma.
