About
The ideal client to work with is one who seeks counseling with the desire to help themselves. More importantly, an ideal client is ready to do the work necessary to make positive changes in their life. Dedication, desire and follow through is needed to achieve progress. There also has to be the understanding that counseling can be hard, which is part of the process. Ideally clients would also be open to hearing a different perspective than their own or hearing something other than they want to hear. The whole process of counseling, in my opinion, has to start with awareness. In these counseling sessions time is spent on exploring the symptoms and feelings that are occurring right now. Then we can focus on where these symptoms and feelings started, when they have been experienced before and how to start managing these symptoms and feelings in healthier ways. One can expect feedback, empathy and validation.
