About
ADHD can present unique strengths and challenges both individually and in relationships. People with ADHD often deeply value empathy, passion, and connection, however may struggle to show this through day-to-day actions. Partners of people with ADHD can consequently be left feeling the opposite of seen and connected, feeling they carry a heavy load of responsibility. This may leave a partner with ADHD having a sense of inadequacy and a neurotypical partner feeling overwhelmed and stressed. Each may feel unseen, misunderstood, or lacking the very connection that they seek. This is one of the many paradoxes of how ADHD can impact relationships. There is no getting around that ADHD and neurotypical brains work differently, and that this can create problems in relationships. But it is possible to harness the strengths of both to foster a healthy, authentic, and connected relationship.
