After working with people in psychotherapy for 42 years I understand that every new person who comes to see me is in emotional crisis, usually frightened, and has mixed feelings about seeking help. I experience every person as unique; initially, it is critical for people to know that they are working with someone who is non-judgmental and worthy of their trust. I still believe that the essence of good therapy is empathy, tactful directness and a collaborative approach that helps people make and internalize changes that will improve their relationships and impart a greater sense of well-being.
