I work with youth that have big personalities! They are complex, intense, passionate, independent, curious and very loving. They are also very smart, charismatic, and creative. They are all or nothing! One minute they are laughing, the next they are screaming. These children experience reduced filtering and advanced processing of information which causes them to have a hypervigilant stress response system. This affects learning, motivation, memory, the pursuit of pleasure, and self-regulation. This neurobiological quality is behind their intensity and originality.
