Being human is painful, beautiful, and confusing. I believe we're not here to escape from that pain, but to learn to relate to it more wisely. It is through painful experiences that our hearts can actually soften, opening us to greater compassion and vitality. If we feel disconnected or numb, we may be pushing grief, anger or shame away. How can we bring loving awareness to these disowned aspects of self? Paradoxically, it is when we accept ourselves exactly as we are now- no matter how unworthy we may feel- that we naturally begin to grow and change.
