My ideal client is the adult who recognizes that their struggle with substance use is not a moral failing, but a deeply intelligent, albeit ultimately unsustainable, coping mechanism forged in the crucible of past trauma. They are the individuals currently grappling with the pervasive, often invisible, effects of trauma and have turned to substances—be it alcohol, drugs, or even compulsive behaviors—as a way to manage the intense, dysregulated emotional states that trauma generates.
